If you have been learning Spanish for a while and have a hard time understanding spoken Spanish then this course is designed to progressively challenge you to lift your skills and give you the confidence you need to take your Spanish out in to the real world.
If this sample from week 4 is a challenge for you then you are at the right level for getting the best results from this course.
These skills can be easily practiced on your own with textbooks and a whole range of online resources. For some students, these skills can be a breeze.
Improving your listening comprehension involves training your ears to pick up new sounds and accents in the voice of native speakers.
If you want to start to understand native speakers you need to practice but improving your listening skills by simply listening is also not the answer.
There are a lot of courses out there that promote p ive listening, where you listen to a recording while you drive to work, do the dishes or fall asleep.
If you have tried these courses and haven’t experienced the improvement you wanted it is because this type of listening does not promote the necessary engagement to form new connections in your brain that will help you later when you actually have to use the language.
Active listening involves finding meaning, looking for context and specific pieces of information in the sounds you are hearing. Then taking action based on what you have heard.
This process is exactly what happens when you start to have a conversation, you first receive new information, you then have to process that information, you then need to respond quickly while the other person waits. P ive listening activities do not promote this necessary skill.
Why? Because actively engaging in a task or activity develops new connections in your brain and helps you quickly build the necessary skills to improve your understanding.
Developing any new skill can be a challenge. In order to improve your chances of success you need to focus on the most important activities.
Regular deliberate practice is about choosing the best activities for improvement and doing them often.
This approach is far more effective than spending hours upon hours doing tasks that contribute less to improvement.
Listening effectively involves actively engaging in the sounds of a language to determine context and extract specific information.
Once you have discovered how to listen you can accelerate you improvement and start listening to learn.
This course is not for everyone – if Spanish Listening Comprehension is your best skill then this course is not for you.
